Facebook LIVE Q&A: Airspace for Drone Pilots

04/23/2019 4:34 PM

This may interest a few here. It came to me from the FAA.

Drone pilots! Join our Facebook LIVE Q&A:
Airspace for Drone Pilots

Please join FAA Safety Inspector Kevin Morris and our team of experts on April 25 at 3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET for a Facebook Live Question and Answer session on why airspace matters when you are flying your drone.

If you were not able to attend our LIVE webinar and Q&A last week, this is a great opportunity to ask questions via Facebook and talk to our experts. We’ll answer as many questions as possible during the session. The remaining questions will be answered on Facebook.

Facebook Live Format

  • Content will be streamed via the FAA’s Facebook channel @FAA.
  • Watch on a mobile device or your desktop.
  • At 3:30 p.m. ET, you will see a video playing on @FAA. Click the video to enter viewing mode.
  • Questions can be typed into the comment field, in the same way you would normally comment on a post.
  • Participation requires that you have a Facebook account.

Topics we’ll cover include:

  • Why airspace matters
  • Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs)
  • Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs)
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Facility Maps
  • What an airspace authorization is, when you need one, and how to get one

Additional questions? Contact socialmedia@faa.gov.

Odd, the last I recall the air space was the domain of all people, just like the seas and oceans, so why do we need permissions to use it from other who have decided it belongs to them?

We are drowning in regulations, laws and requirements. I used to fly remote controlled aircraft, now gave up due to far too many rules. The same with my yachts and cars, always someone making up rules. Can people not be left to enjoy hobbies and assumed to have common sense, which 98% of us have, we get screwed over by the 2% idiots and those who think they own everything.

Rant over.

If you're having fun, you're breaking some law, and some authority figure will be along sooner or later, to let you know which and why, and then you have to pay...Which is really just an inconvenience if you have plenty of money ....Only kids can have fun for free...

I have notice, especially in the UK, people and police will tell you 'this is against the law" and when you challenge them they back off as they know they are trying it on. But they still insist they are right.

But I agree, fun, that is totally against the law to have without permission and permits and everyone's consent. Of course, booked one month in advance, and that you are a fully fledged license holder.

Now what does one do if they are a kite flyer. Do you need to attend FAA regulation classes too. Serious question.

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's an unlicensed vehicle!

Freedom, You are free to choose your toothpaste, coffee, chocolate and groceries. After that, forget it.

Question: When I flew remote control, I was always told by the 'authoritive folks' that the plane could fall out the sky and hit someone on the head. Or the plane will attract people and a spinning prop could seriously damage a person.

These drones have spinning props. These drone can fall out the sky and ht me on the head. So why is it OK for Amazon at all to do what we are not allowed to do in public spaces?

Because they are the big boys on the block, have more money than us, have more people in their pockets?

If i run a remote controlled car down the pavement, (sidewalk), I will be in big trouble with the police, yet the drone delivery cart can travel where it likes on the pavement and people move out the way. Amazon pizza delivery drone can fly around the neighbourhood, yet I get in trouble for flying a drone in the garden. Now how the heck does that work? Ah yes, one law for you another for us. How silly of me!

Do you have a license madam? It is against the law to fly in this park. That cyclist is not wearing an official cycle helmet and he could fall off and hurt someone. And as for that stork, No No No! Infringing airport security and hampering air traffic.

Amazing what some folks can make, very clever indeed.

Lynn, perhaps people are tired of being controlled and told what they must do and must not do, rather than knowing what they can do and enjoy life. The balance has been removed by faceless, 'not responsible but I'm in charge folks'. "Be careful of what you tolerate, as you are teaching people how to treat you"
