Honesty, co-operation, quick response, good answers to questions and no runaround. A decent price break can't hurt either.

Some people like free perks but working for the Govt. we're not allowed to accept anything. Remember the old days when the Navy used to get charged $300.00 for a hammer and 800.00 for a toilet seat. Treat the customer like you would like to be treated no matter who or what they are. They will, or won't, return depending upon your first response or actions. If you don't have or handle something, knowing who does and sharing this information is a super PLUS.

Over the years, I have frequently found myself purchasing for several small companies.

I appreciate a vendor who is willing to work with the little guy. If a vendor has a minimum $500.00 order (for example), I cannot deal with him as a little guy, and I sure as heck am not going to deal with him when making large purchases. I will support the vendor who supported me as a little guy.

I also appreciate service. Back in the '70s and '80s, I could place an order with Hamilton-Avnet in the afternoon for my piddley amount of ICs, and pick them up at 9:00 the next morning in will-call. They also kept a good supply of manufacturers data books on hand. If I needed the latest National Linear book (for example) all I had to do was walk into will-call and ask for it. "Oh sure!! Here ya go!!" Literature is of lesser importance today, but I am not always in front of the computer (and the internet) so it is handy to have a book to take with me.

Things have changed over the years. I no longer work in silicon valley, and things have to be shipped to me. Today, I deal alot with DigiKey. They have good pricing, and they don't care that I am a little guy.

Hopefully this will help you.

Sincerely

Bill
