Casting Methods For Stainless Steel

10/11/2007 7:28 AM

Hi out there in the e-sphere.

I'm going to produce brackets in stainless steel. To reduce production cost I plan to design the bracket to be produced by casting and reduce machining to a minimum. I was thinking of SHELL CASTING or LOST WAX METHOD as I started the design, but to my surprice there are both weight and size limitations to this methods. (I have been in contact with three companies in Europe). Does anyone know of manufacturers able to produce items with weight of 120 kg?

Check out this http://www.lovson.com/sand-castings-steel.html

Unless you have aesthetic concerns, sand casting should be economical, and structurally sufficient.

Have fun,

120 kg! I'd hate to see the thermometer that you're going to hang off those puppies!

I'm impressed with your ambition.

Sand is proper scale (no pun intended) for the size, but not going to be as nicely detailed as lost wax.

Try permanent mold casting. Similar to sand casting but with a bit finer detail.
