World population fits a 2 mile cube

Figuring that the approximate density of a human is about 1, then I figure that each person's volume is about 3 cubic feet.

There are 10560 linear feet per 2 miles you get 1.177 trillion cubic feet per 2 mile cube.

Divide by 3 and you get about 400 billion people. The current estimate for world population is 6.6 billion, so there is room to roam if I did this right?

2 Cubic miles = 5280³ feet X 2 = 2.94396 E11 cubic feet

2.94396 E11 cubic feet/ 6,600,000,000 people ~= 44.6³ feet per person.

Now if it would be closer if it was 2 cubic Kilometers. about .3 cubic meters per person

maybe they looked in the not so far future and extrapolated from recent obesity figures that people would be that big soon...so it all works out in the end.

There is probably more room to roam than you calculated when you consider that a majority of the world's population is underfed.

Try looking up the number of square miles in the State of Texas, USA. Then determine how much space each person would have if you placed the entire earths population in that one state.

I am thinking we should put them all in Utah..... We like our elbow room here in Texas, and you can't get a good elbow swing going if your neighbor is less that 20 miles away...

If you assume that an average body occupies a simple cube of 20" wide by 14" deep by 70" tall, which means that you dont stack up head to toe, stagger each row, put body parts in the spaces beside your head and shoulders and on top of your feet etc, that 20% of volume of the population are smaller from zero to full size, (ie the volume is assumed to be 90% of the full size volume); then I calculate we can simply all fit into less than 0.5 cubic mile, just over 4000 feet each way. Does that really seem possible? Mind you, the beads on my counting frame are getting a little stiff these days.

Reminds me of the theory when I was a boy that the world population could all stand on the Isle of Wight, about 150 square miles, off southern England. Well, on the same area premise, it would now occupy a space of 475 square miles. So buy your waterwings now before the price goes up.

If the current world population walks past you at 3 mph, I yard (metre) apart in 2 rows, they would never ever stop. And how many rows would there be in 70 years time!!!!!!!!! Mind you, your arms would be a little tired from handing out the soup.

I am also thinking that unless there is an effective waste disposal system in place, then I want to be on the top of the pile not the bottom....
