For most of my life I did consulting.

My card read:

Engineering Over site Rectification Specialist.

No Cure - No Fee

I made sure that every client I accepted signed a contract that allowed me to use their company name in my advertisements and required a letter of recommendation from them that I could show to prospective clients.

The first year was tough. I went around knocking on doors. "Hello Plant Manager / Maintenance Manager / Whoever, I can fix the bottlenecks in your production line." First job was a plant manager who told me his biggest problem was Disability Claims and how was an engineer going to fix that?

I asked what was the most common claim,(carpal tunnel,) and what work station produced it? Long story shortened. I redesigned the work station and claims dropped to zero. I then got to go through the plant station by station.

Six months work and glowing recommendations. Not to mention money.

Like most things in life, it takes work and time to "fill the pipeline".

As I said before, it is tough starting out but the rewards are great once you get established. Good Luck to you!

My company FA Systems Automation www.fasystems.com.sg has designed and manufactured systems and equipment for the Semiconductor, Photonics, Electronics and Medical Industries. Some of the most recent customers have been HP, Seagate, Avago and many more. What I'm looking for are companies or people with emerging or current technologies that we can collaborate with to fill a missing or underserved market segment. An example would be an automated system to inspect solar cells. I realize these tools already exist but are they doing everything that the manufacturer needs. This was just an example. If anyone needs to design equipment we have the resources to do it, big or small.
