API 620, Design of Conical Bottom of Storage Tank

Que- I want to know how to design conical bottom of storage tank as per API 620 ,because i got confused the procedure of design . please anybody help me who has experience of design of conical bottom as per API 620.

The standard gives <...the procedure of design...>.

Please describe in more detail the area that is causing concern so that <...anybody...who has experience of design...> has a good starting point.

Hello anonymous!

The API-620 do require some understanding of the method and the work as it is not a step by step configuration to adopt. To be more precise, you have to look for the development of the free body diagrams for each configuration. There may be need to add the components that might not be in the published equations.

But API-620 also lags in adding the leg design and neither i have seen any standard that covers this subject well. I have found that AWWA D100 does provide the design configuration for the elevated tanks but lacks to provide sufficient design information. However I would like to suggest you to go for scalloped bottom design but still the detailed design will be awkward to address and making approximations also leaves some major aspects ignored.
