Some Interesting Information for You

09/17/2019 11:10 PM

This could be a good thing or a bad thing. You might not want anyone eavesdropping on what you're thinking. It might make it tough on captured spies.

"In a scientific first, neuroengineers have created a system that translates thought into intelligible, recognizable speech. This breakthrough, which harnesses the power of speech synthesizers and artificial intelligence, could lead to new ways for computers to communicate directly with the brain."

Do you have a credible source for your quoted statement?

Or, two or more?

Without any source reference, the forum has nothing but your words.

A little misleading...People don't usually think in conversational speech, but mostly pictures and memory, the ability to translate thought of words being spoken to audible speech would help those who cannot speak communicate with the outside world, a great help in the medical field...anybody who has lost the ability to speak but is still fully conscious would tell you how helpful this would be, it would be a godsend...

"... anybody who has lost the ability to speak but is still fully conscious would tell you how helpful this would be..."

.

They would, would they?

They might tell someone "how belpful it is" if the tech were already available to them.

Telling someone "how helpful it would be" implies the tech is not yet available to them, i.e. they have not yet found their lost ability to tell someone about potential helpfulness.

Some people lose their ability to speak for one reason or another, but then regain it later...They would tell you that not being able to speak was frustrating because everybody thought they were unconscious, which was not the case...If they could have given instructions on what was happening it would have saved time and money and provided quicker relief....Losing the ability to communicate is very frustrating...In some instances the person can communicate but it's quite difficult and exhausting, this technology would be a great help to many....

InI agree it would be frustrating and that this type of tech could be very helpful. I was just pointing out that without the ability to communicate, regardless of their viewpoint, a person will not be telling anyone much of anything.

I expect it would be hard on a lot of marriages too.

It seems like it would be problematic distinguishing between genuine thoughts and a contrived narrative.

This would obviously be the case if the process were not surreptitious, i.e. what would keep someone from intentionally thinking untrue thoughts while examined?

If the proceedure were surreptitious, there could still be problems with the reliability of the information. How could you know if someone just happened to be playing devil's advocate in their head, or attempting to imagine what others might think, or just fantasizing about that it would be like to be a villian?
