AIS are conventional Sub Stations

GIS are Gas Insulated Sub Station.

GIS Are proffered where the land availability is constrain OR is so high land cost. The same are proffered where Air Pollutions are very high.

In a GIS the live equipments are encapsulated in high pressure SF6 , which reduce the dimension with respect to AIS

The main aspects are :-

* Minimization of required land and dimension of the SS

* High protection class in view of encapsulation

* Short time periodic maintenance is not necessary

* More expansive with respect to AIS against which due to minimization of land requirement cost can be evaluated with above features.
