Is the Sun Akin to An Ocean?

Ohhhh the atmosphere.. (vague movie reference)

Yes I'm guilty of using analogous terms to work things out.

On topic -

It appears the sun is at what they call a solar minimum which is when the surface is calm and devoid of sun spots and solar flares.

When I think about the conditions of the surface of the sun it appears to exhibit the same exact characteristics of a body of water.

At times it will rage and froth with destructive ferocity!

At other times you feel you could peel across twenty miles in a kayak with little effort.

What this means?

Just pointing it out as we are reaching a record number of days at solar minimum.

Is there something unusual about planetary alignment at the root of this?

There are (whithout a doubt) a lot of forces at play, as they say.

...this means that when the sun is at solar maximum, it extra important that we have our magnetic field i.e. shield e.g. Rain-X in good working order.

As strong as the sun's gravity is, to ionized plasma, the force of magnetism is even stronger. Ionized gas can only travel along the magnetic field lines. Here is a case of solar "weather" where it rains...
