Good day Engineers

We are using Simocode overload Relay as our motor protection device. The Simocode keeps on loosing programme, then it stopped the Drive and the Technician must come and re-programme again. We were using Simocode-DP, we changed to Simocode-Prov but still the same thing happened. what can cause the Simocode to loose programme? please assist.

I can only ask if the Simocode (producer/provider) has a field representative that can visit your site, and see the (installation) directly?

Could be that the relay is being affected by EMI or RFI which is wiping the memory.

If it used battery backed RAM then the battery might be past the use by date and dropping out like the computer does when the battery drops to close to the operating limit.

Poor decoupling of the power supply on board if it uses EEROM for program storage can cause induced spikes to wipe memory.

Does the technician have to reload the operating system or just the program. Operating system is usually stored in EPROM on similar.

Danny posted about this problem beginning of March 2019. The question is "Did you read and try to understand what is in the manual?" Read The Flippen Manual is always the first step. I know it is more than 700 pages but it is the first place to start, even before you take the equipment out of the box. I am convinced that your hourly rate is much cheaper than the cost of this equipment. As long as you do not have the knowledge to interpret the workings of the device you can not even ask relevant and intelligent questions. Start with the manual and print the diagrams and compare your installation to the diagrams. Write on the diagrams and make notes. Not starting there will extend the problem and cost over the next 5 years. You can not even calculate how much damage that can cause. Print that manual and start reading.

So who told you that you can use a Simocode on a Variable Frequency Drive? When I worked at Siemens, it was a known thing that this was not a good idea because it was not designed to handle the high harmonics of the power flow nor the high levels of common mode noise created by VFDs.

Also:

Even if it is appropriate now (I left Siemens in 2008), as I recall, you need to manually save the parameters to a memory module, otherwise the first time you lose power, it loses its memory.
