Zenneck Surface Waves? Any Thoughts?

12/30/2019 8:31 AM

It looks like this company is trying to scrounge up some old Tesla tech.

Interesting to say the least, but is it actually viable?

Good question.

From the link, "Enabling the adoption of surface wave products and services in a safe, environmentally conscious and reliable manner, improving living conditions across the globe."

How would that be safe to people, animals or plants if electrical energy was transmitted that way?

For broadcasting signals, probably. The field drops off as 1/r rather than 1/r2 because it propagates mostly in 2 dimensions rather than 3. For communications, you don't care if it starts out as kilowatts and ends up as microwatts.

It doesn't make much sense sending power in all directions. Those close would get a lot of power, those far away would get a little, and a lot off power would go to waste, not to mention the safety aspects. What you want is to send power from where it's generated to where it is needed. Good old wires (and transformers) work fine for that.

minus the math.. exactly my thoughts!

It answer the old question.

WHY ARE YOU HERE?

...because there's an outlet.

From the article, I do not see anything that differentiates this proposal from Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio transmission being used today.

That was not an attack. I was merely amused at the terminology. Really I think if "we" understood what Tesla did in entirety there would have been a lot of changes. Much of Tesla's work is "lost" or hidden if one believes in conspiracy. His "friction" turbine alone should have elevated Tesla to one of the greatest inventors of our time status. Much of his work is almost unbelievable. As to not knowing what he was doing.....really?

If you have a knee jerk analogy that we can all appreciate and understand, do share!

What do you mean by "we"? Just because you don't understand something, it doesn't mean nobody understands it. Tesla didn't even understand some of his inventions. The synchronous AC induction motor/generator is one of Tesla's greatest inventions. But it is Charles Steinmetz who produced the equivalent circuit identifying he understood how it works.
