China to the Rescue? In Maine!

01/17/2020 7:54 AM

I thought this was an interesting story.

Old paper mill given a second lease on life.

Of course there are those in complete opposition, but why?

I'll be interested to hear what my friends in the paper industry have to say about this.

Interesting... back in the 80’s China was buying closed/defunct steel mills, dismantling it and moving the whole mill to China...

it wasn’t long and we were getting cheap steel from China.

and since the tariffs... things made a ‘huge’ circle one wouldn’t think possible where now they’re having problems

Given China's relatively recent revealed commitment to (take over the WORLD), should we not be ever-ready to beware of Chinese (Greeks) baring Mill-repairing/removing (gifts) to any modern-day U. S. (Troy)?...

Always, but to do that you need strong leadership that until 2016, we never had with the motto (using a old Russian Russian proverb that's quite fitting) доверяй, но проверяй

"trust, but verify'.

Way back in (1802?) when I was a Civil Engineer undergrad, taking Dynamics class, taught by a Mechanical Engineer, I asked him why (Mexico had bought a totally worn-out and out-dated sugar processing plant from the U.S.). He explained that they would probably dis-assemble the entire thing, draw up plans of it all, piece by piece, in order to build new one(s) in Mexico.

Seems like a hard way to go about it, but relatively(?) more affordable, and, at the time,I was ok with that concept...

We had previously done things like that with Pre-WWII Japan, where upon they paid us back ''interest'' on December 7, 1941...

Let us not forget...

We sold China a small cheese process line... piping and everything. Assembled it in our shop and disassembled and shipped it to China. We had told them, we send one of our engineers and a group of fabricators to assist in installation...

their response was, no thank you...

The problem with reverse engineering, you also copy the mistakes, with out knowing why or the fundamentals on the reasoning of the problems.

as far as Japan pay back, we both known the reason.

China is leading the world in quantity of published-University-researh-papers these days.

I am confident they were plenty smart enough to figure it out by themselves...

(As for Mexico, I never heard if they did...)

I don’t disagree, but one of the items they are guilty of is reverse engineering.

Re: China to the rescue? in Maine!

There used to be a Russian thing called a (Z-23 mobile air defense tracked vehicle) which was, simplistically, an anti-aircraft gun-array (radar-guided?) on a tank chassis, back in the 80's-ish, and it worked relatively well, for it's time...

The U.S. tried to counter that with their ''Sgt. York'' vehicle, but failed (either the gun worked and the radar did not, or vice-versa). Subsequently the U.S. bought a used Z-23 from a (third party) to reverse-engineer it to get the Sgt York (up to snuff). It still failed... In that instance, it was a fitting sequel to the proto-types of the (Bradley infantry fighting vehicle). Refer to ''the Pentagon Wars'' for further information thereon... We still do not have a corresponding weapon system to the Z-23...

Among others, the Russians have subsequently developed a (Z-28) and a (Z-31)...

Apparently, reverse-engineering is not always as easy as it seems to be, even when we do it...

reverse engineer has been going on since there were adversaries.

When Stalin order to copy and manufacture of a B29 that emergence landed in the USSR., that’s what they did, right done to the patches from shell/flak holes, to the pressed ‘Boeing’ name on back of the pilots seat.

Really?

........" strong leadership that until 2016, we never had.".......................

That "strong leadership" steered the United States into a trade war, bringing average tariffs on Chinese goods to 21.3 percent, up from 3.1 percent when he came into office.

In 2018 the Chinese government sharply limited the import of American recycling scrap, in a policy known as the “National Sword.”

We keep shooting ourselves in the foot with our BIG 'ole loudmouthed 45!

The M1911 might be loud, but it is still a fine piece.

Good thing the M1911 can only hold up to 8 rounds- 1 in the chamber 7 in the clip.

that leaves me 2 toes as spares.

Don’t let me point your liberal BS, because you know I will.

It was proved With administration after administration of capitulation with China it didn’t work, so he’s, we did have what you’d call a trade war.

We finally had someone that can standup to China, and melt the snowflakes in this country.

And it’s finally swinging not so much in our favor, but a sound medium for both country’s.

as far as your overreaction,... this isn’t not much of a trade war.

I think your thinking of the war North Korea’s has with the Sea

ps,

If you can’t handle it, best stop playing with guns, before you hurt someone other than yourself.

i was going to mark this off topic,... but my groupies can do that...

Mao promised that they would bury us. We just didn't realize it would be by our own hand and our own greed. They were just going to "help" our self destructive nature along.
