Lightweight Driver Seat

Marius Tudorica writes:
Hello, everyone! My name is Marius Tudorica. I am a design engineer working for General Dynamics Land Systems, Canada. I have an application for a military vehicle, the 8X8 Light Armored Vehicle. Here are some system specifications. The driver seat assembly should have a sliding mechanism which can be bolted on an adapter plate, sliding forward and backward 6 inches. The recliner mechanism (this is a tough one) has to allow the backrest to come into an almost horizontal backward position, approximately 80-85° from the vertical axis. The backrest must be really strong (occupants get in the vehicle through a hatch and could "accidentally" jump on it) and can have any shape (max height 490 mm, width 480). The seat pan can be any shape (480 x 400 mm). And now for the best part . . . Weight = 23-24 lbs or 10-11 kg.(The existing one weighs 10 lbs more!) Obviously, lightweight materials must be considered - aluminum, composite materials, fiberglass or anything else which meets these requirements. FMVSS 207 IS MANDATORY. The supplier has to have an export license according to ITAR (USA) or CGP(Canada) regulations. Any suggestions are appreciated (manufacturer, after market products, etc.)! Thanks

Recaro

They are world renouwn for their seats in all kinds of vehicles. Contact them.

Carbon fiber is probably the right material (my guess).

ITAR is easy to get and only takes a few weeks. Cost is under $1800 and Recaro probably already has one.
