Armour plate is generally not going to be publicly available information. high strength steels used for military ships etc. are produced and available through Bluescope Steel.

Surface hardening technology is also commonly available , normally in the form of Carbide inserts or metal spray technology or weld-on surfacing.

Read your history old chap! then you can work it all out for yourself! The information is freely available, but no one sensible is going to tell you anything more than I have.

dear Sir,

I am searching any technical information for armor steel.

We have to cut plates thickness 40mm and then we need to open holes for bolts 35/55 by using drill tool but I don't know which is the best tool that I can use, bearing in mind that I tried with drillings suitable to Hardox 400 but it was impossible to drill that plate (armour).

If you have any information for the above issue, kindly ask you to reply me

Best regards

barbara papas

For wheeled vehicles, heavy steel plates are being replaced by composite (non-metallic) plates. I think track vehicles and ships still tend to use steel plates.

The war in Iraq with all the IED's is creating a huge demand for Kevlar and other composite armor fibers. Normal industrial uses for Kevlar are finding it difficult to find available fiber.

What, are you planning on designing some armor-piercing anti-tank rounds or something? Seriously, that is a bit of an alarming question to ask.
