Putting (sandbags and/or rocks of any size) will not solve the problem. It might only delay it, some what.

This is very similar to the recent Oroville earth-filled dam failure.

The (powers-that-be) should lower, and/or divert, the retained water level as much as possible, as soon as possible.

It is probably too late to build an adequate cofferdam to effect repairs in time.

A progressive failure is imminent, so evacuate the relevant floodable plain, asap.

Earth-filled dams, even with concrete-surfaced floodways, are only built for a specific service life of only so many dozen years, and Whaley Dams' service life is currently ending right before your eyes.

Mother Nature is a very tough negotiator. Quit trying to (negotiate) and activate a comprehensive emergency response plan, while there is still a little time.

Thanks for sharing great post! unfortunately this is not just common to Great Britton, people have been overlooking these things for years, and when funding is requested it is not nearly enough to cover the projects cost other than a band aid attempt. A lot of these dams are over due to be overhauled. what could be more important to public health and safety than flooding people out of the homes. If you have anything to share on this, please do so infrastructure cant be overlooked and needs to be taken more seriously. thanks
