I made a post about this a while ago, and I am planing to revisit this in my blog workbench creations in the not so distant future. In short there are lots of ways of doing this, but all are involved, and almost all involve preheating as well as other things. I have not tried, but heard you can mix up to 20% WVO into HHO without modifying anything, but you must mix it well, and you can't do this in the main oil tanks as WVO will collect all the dirt at the bottom of the tank and clog everything many times over. Good luck, its not as easy as just using in filtered WVO but if you stick with it and modify your burner, it can be done. I would get a spare burner to modify, don't destroy your main burner.

I burn 35% WVO 65% #2 home heating oil in my slightly modified oil furnace and have been doing it for 17 years without problems. First, I have a 1000 gallon in-ground tank. Second, my waste veggie oil is pretty clean to start with and I let it settle for a month or two before adding it to the main tank. After adding the waste oil, I top off the tank with fresh #2 from my heating oil supplier. My burner modifications, if you want to even call them modifications, consist of using a 1.0 gph, 60 degree, semi-solid nozzle which I operate at 200 psi. The original nozzle spec is 1.25 gph, 45 degree, semi-solid, at 100 psi. I added an oil filter to the input of the burner's oil pump. That's it! Of course, I adjusted the flame retention head, combustion air, etc. using standard combustion test instruments. The furnace is a fire tube, scotch marine design and operates at .25 inch WC positive pressure. Oh yes, I changed the ignition from intermittent to continuous.

Im using an oil boiler for my heat and im using around 25% wvo that i have done transeterifactoin useing a salt cracking method. Its not the best so far if i keep the burner keeps coming on every 20 to 30 minutes it is good but any longer it wont fire up i have to heat the burner tube to get it lit. so im in the process of looking for a heater for the burner tube to see if that works. my oil is at room temp ive been thinking about heat the oil to see if that helps. Im just leaving some info on what im doing.

I have been adding a mix of very clean used oil and kerosene(10 to 1) for most of the winter and it has been running very smothly, but now i seem to have crossed the line(a mix to heavy on the wvo) and if the furnace is cold it won't fire unless i remove the fuel from the injector and reinstall. Then it fires up straight away. Do you think that changing the nozzle to a higher psi will atomise the fuel better and maybe solve my problem? Does emptying out the injector gives the continuous ignition time to get abit hotter?pre heating the fuel?

thanks

Hello, How are you progressing with this? I'm interested in heating my home with WVO. Our furnace is old but sound, with a non-retention-head burner. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tom Healy thhealy@gmail.com
