compressed wood shavings

10/30/2007 9:18 AM

I saw a thing on the show "how its made" about making some compressed wood logs for the fire place. Does anybody have any information on how to make such a machine. The logs were about 2" in diameter. From what I can get from the show it was a single ram that plunges into a exstrusion like die. There is a hopper that continually feeds wood shavings into the plunger area. I'm going to go look at a feed mill that produces food pellets because the same theory would apply but I haven't had time to do it yet. I would also like to know what kind of pressure I will need to compress the wood. Thanks

The same pellet mill is used for feed pellets and for wood pellets. Wood pellet quality involves several factors. Look at http://www.pelletheat.org/2/index/index.html

For a list of machine types, look at http://www.freedomequipment.com/categories/pelletmills.php?gclid=CNTW_5mcuI8CFRSkQAodTEGnYg
