SNMP Card For UPS

07/29/2020 10:07 AM

Quick Question - We are using Emerson UPS GXT MT+CX 3kVA Long Backup UPS with SNMP Card option. Do we have to use the Specific Emerson make SNMP Card in the slot or can we go with any local SNMP card for Monitoring as the SNMP card circuit is similar. I believe for certain KVA range the card sizes differ. For eg: upto 30kVA they are similar. For above 30kVA we need to go with bigger Slots.

Question is extended to any UPS Make whether they are compatible with any make SNMP cards? What Precautions need to be taken here?

Also Protocol V3 is not compatible with many devices, is it fair to go with V1 protocol

Please advise

"The UPS is equipped with intelligent slot perfect for either SNMP or AS400 card. When installing either SNMP or AS400 card in the UPS, it will provide advanced communication and monitoring options. "

V1 should be ok...with proper driver...

Don't see any warnings...as long as it is compatible I don't see a problem...

That sounds like a question for Emerson, not this forum. Telephone?

Is it not in the manual that came with it?

For the extended part of your question I suspect that everything from the RJ-45 jack inward is an Emerson proprietary design. I don't actually know but my guess is that you should assume other manufacturer's cards won't work unless you find a specification or statement that both the mechanical form factor and the inside interface conforms to a matching industry standard.

If it is worth using SNMP to monitor the UPS then it should be worth installing the UPS in a manner that you can trust the SNMP device to work properly.

Sure! Do whatever you want. It's not my equipment or reputation you're backing up with this system. I and CR4 won't be liable for anything damaged or lost by your efforts.

If you want a wiser answer from somebody with a vested interest to do this right, contact the manufacturer (Emerson) to approve your changes or to suggest an engineer/designer they approve of in your area.

I do see that you wisely posted this question anonymously.
