Tube and Hose Manufacturing in Lean Six Sigma

11/05/2007 12:24 PM

I'm looking for anyone who may be able to share any advice or give some brainstroming ideas on implementing the Lean/Six sigma idiology into the manufacturing of hose and tubing. I have new machinery coming and have developed a shop restructuring plan implementing these ideas and concepts but the more input there is the better. Sometimes fresh outside opinions can help us to see things in a different perspective.

Hmm, plastic, metal, braided, multilumen etc? You mention 'restructuring' what barriers exist now and have to be included as 'legacy' or can you wipe the slate clean?

Is your product (line) build to order, build to inventory, local, regional, national distribution etc.

Things that come to mind first -

SMED, Pull based Kanban, Mistake Proofing, use of specific high technology to increase productivity, 30 sec apprenticeship - Of course, all of these assume that some business structure already exists. Are you correcting/improving or starting from scratch?

What have you already considered - perhaps easier to take into other forum; glad to talk further -

Jim
