Cavalier or Tesla?

10/06/2020 1:54 AM

Is Tesla going down the path of the Cavalier?

A back windshield blew out of my Cavalier at 60 mph.

Article too long to link, too long to load.

Why don't you tell us what the concern is from your perspective?

The roof of a new Tesla blew off on the way home from the dealership.

The dealership’s manager told them that it might have been a faulty seal on the roof or that “they somehow just forgot to seal the roof on entirely,”

The rest of the story is on the link.

Now that's what I call a panoramic view...

Looks like it's still there....Maybe I should give it a push...Nah, fingerprints...He probably hit the eject button by accident...

Well they certainly have had some legendary fails....like when that guys head was cut off...Yikes....The fires.....Car deciding to update the software at random times....

To be fair, most of these were caused by driver error...distracted driving...

The track record is low but the customer satisfaction is high. Expectations already low?

It looks like actually using the things at all constitutes <...driver error...>...

That does seem to be one of Teslas faults, trying to not spend money fixing their fuck ups and blaming the owners for it.

I like my car. I am not please with the company. I see some dark days ahead if they don't get a grip on customer service before they run out of unpaid beta testing fanboys.

And yes we all know its not a real beta test its a legal loophole being exploited until it kills too many people.

Tesla dodged a bullet. Imagine if the roof hit another car, pedestrian or flew into a home, store or school?

Years ago when I was in college, I was driving home on the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago. There are two express lanes, which are reversible and have limited access and exit. I was driving around 60 mph and I see this bus wheel/tire bouncing on the roadway toward the express lanes. It was winter or spring and there was a small pile of snow and ice covering the curb. The tire hit the snow bank and flew up in the air onto the roadway. I sped up and made it past, but the poor lady behind me had nowhere to go and the tire hit her car in the middle of her hood. I looked in my rearview mirror and the hood was bent up - I read the news and couldn't find the story, so my guess is that she was okay.

A bouncing bus tire is bad. I think a flying glass roof can be as bad, but there's even more danger, because it can catch air and fly.

FYI, I've delivered over 4,000 vehicles in my career and I haven't had one lose the roof or sunroof. Those ingenious Tesla engineers! What will they think of next?

You just reminded me of a time I saw a tire wedged into a gap in an overpass on the Kennedy just outside Hubbard's Cave.

I wished I had a camera. ..it was way up there.

Tesla...

I have a rant about electronic control panels I need to deal with first.

Grrrr..

Wow, you wonder how the heck a tire gets in such strange places.

Many years ago, I lived in Newport Beach. I hiked a trail called Car Wreck above Laguna Beach. It's a strange situation - an old car is in a place where it shouldn't be, nor can I find a feasible explanation on how it got there.

Here's a picture of the car:

Looking up from the car wreck:

Or from a distance:

This is one of those, Really? moments.

Being I own one I know the material they install the glass with is not easy to work with. When they replaced the windshield in mine after the garage door incident it took longer to clean the adhesive off the car that it did to set the glass.

Not that Tesla doesn't have a boat load of problems, but this one is not something that would be easy to miss. If the window was not bonded it would have come off well before it got to the dealership. If it was only partially bonded it would have leaked like crazy during washing both at the factory and the dealership.

So I'd need to see the glass seat clearly before I would make a statement. Something conveniently not shown.

IMO a Stanford computer student that doesn't know how to use a cell phone and its camera? Now that is even harder to believe than the glass flying off.
