We Are in a Supernova Cloud

10/28/2020 7:13 PM

There is evidence that our solar system is traveling through a super nova debris cloud.

This means that asteroids may exist that are largely pure gold....

Or maybe diamonds,... but then diamonds aren’t as rare as perceived.

IMHO:

If they ever do discover diamonds in huge quantities in space,De Beers will be The first to mine them, and the first to control the price.

Other words, diamonds would be worthless, and the streets would be paved with them.

Same with gold.

I have always said that the space race would take off when private industry got involved, and it is taking place right now.

The race for the moon is about H3,which is much more valuable than gold.

If the moon was made of gold,it would not be profitable to bring it back, but H3 is a different story, and is a likely candidate for fusion reactions.

Eventually, space travel will be commonplace and unremarkable, just like horses were replaced by automobiles.

I won't be around to see all these changes, but I can see it happening.

Visitor to the moon will not be able to stay for long periods, because their bodies will become accustomed to the low gravity, and a return to full Earth gravity would not be possible without an intensive physical regimen beforehand.

Just my 2cents worth.

DeBeers doesn’t have to Mine Diamonds in space to be affordable, diamonds are already affordable if the supply wasn’t controlled by DeBeers.

Re: We Are in a Supernova Cloud

My point exactly.

De Beers controls almost all of the diamonds on Earth now,and they will control them in space too if possible.

The market would collapse if they released all of the diamonds they hold right now.

They parcel them out in a trickle, meanwhile mining mountains of them.

IMHO:They will even allow killing to keep their mines open.Greed without bounds.

They are insuring the survival of their corporation far into the future.

The treasure-rush of the future will not about gold or diamonds, but about H3.

Future generations will look up at the moon and see it is covered in glistening domes, that cover the mining and manufacturing operations.

The many lava tubes on the moon will be used for some human habitation, while the outside operations will be automated.

Free energy from huge solar cells that are never in the shade, reflectors that can be focused on the surface to melt the regolith which will be pressurized from below into a giant dome structure.

When the dome cools, the inflation gas will be recovered and used again.

All it takes is for people to stop buying diamond jewelry and we can use them for more useful stuff like sandpaper and grinding wheels.

Industrial diamonds are reasonably cheap.

Some are artificial and some are scraps from diamond cutting.

The manufacturers have a very high mark up on diamond embedded tools.

The hardest diamonds are black. They are formed when graphite is exposed to high pressures and temperatures, usually from a meteorite strike on a high carbon substrate.

(Carbonado Diamonds),or formed long ago in space in a hydrogen rich environment.

They were used in some of the tooling to dig the panama canal.

https://gems-world.com/en/43-carbonado/https://gems-world.com/en/43-carbonado/

In 1971,they found even harder diamonds in a meteorite, but they were very small.

Yeah but artificial diamonds have really brought the prices down, they are indistinguishable from mined diamonds, Debeer's still tries to control pricing though by producing their own artificial diamonds by using their contacts and influence amongst the diamonds cutters and jewelry store outlets, but every year there is more competition...Jewelers themselves have been devastated by foreign markets that cut their prices down so low that many jewelers are staying in business by selling and servicing watches mainly, but watches are going the way of the dodo bird with everybody carrying a smartphone...

A gemologist can tell the difference because the artificial diamonds are flawless, but the casual observer cannot tell the difference.

No artificial diamonds can be made with flaws....and in different colors and clarity...

I just use a diamond tester, much easier....

I recall reading many years ago about a person in Australia that had developed a method of producing industrial diamonds simply and cheaply, using a modified metallizing machine.

I don't remember all of the details, but it involved shooting a high pressure stream of graphite through an acetylene flame and impacting the super-hot graphite onto a steel target.

The impact produced the pressure required, and the flame produced the heat.

This produced many fine-grain diamonds for industrial use.

Probably used in abrasive wheels, etc by now.

Re: We Are in a Supernova Cloud

Science friction always imagines things that will take may years, sometimes centuries to transpire.

I don't write Sci Fi but I have a vivid imagination.

I imagine the moon looking like chrome plated bubble wrap, covered in domes of all sizes.

Most industry will eventually be relocated to the moon because of the nearly free limitless energy and an infinite heat sink.

Orbiting solar cells measuring many kilometers in area will beam energy back to the surface to supply underground habitats, protected inside the lava tubes that have been modified for human habitation.

Most manufacturing will be 3d printing,or a similar technology;perhaps nanobots building things from molecules,or perhaps yoctobots building from atoms, and passing the output on up the build chain to the nanobots.

Earth will return to a pre-industrial state.

Genetically modified bacteria will have consumed the plastic islands that now pollute the oceans and the generations of pollutants that were produced over the centuries of man's disregard for nature.

Agriculture will be located in huge, many kilometer, energy harvesting domes that will be floating above ground, immune to earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, etc.

Insofar as peace?

There will never be peace.Life itself is a battle, down to the lowest life forms;Viruses and bacteria battle each other, and man is no different, and there will always be disagreements, philosophies, or possessions that seem worth fighting for.

Humans are just glorified Dung Beetles, fighting for a share of the dung pile in the midst of plenty.

Pessimist?Not really.

I am positive that Man will not change,no matter the technology.

Maybe you should try embracing your humanhood rather than rejecting it, you judge rather harshly...Your prudish distain for those who came before you seems to disregard the fact that you would not exist had it not been for them...Your criticism seems rather inappropriate...Do you yell at babies demanding they walk upright at birth?

Get up you lazy git!!!

Do you enter museums and proclaim in a loud voice that the contents are offensive and trivial..?

Do you drive out to farms and curse the farmers who have been feeding your family for generations?

You filthy beast...

Re: We Are in a Supernova Cloud

You totally misunderstand my point.
Man has progressed at a very rapid pace, faster than the planet can adapt.
200 years ago, they still used cattle and horses for farm labor, and the farmers lived hand-to-mouth,rarely having enough to eat, much less sell.
Progress is good, but it has been at the expense of nature, with indestructable chemicals and materials that are here to stay, long after our species has dissapeared and gone extinct,or moved on tho other planets.
Our technolgy has advanced to the point that we can destroy every living thing on th eplanet with the push of a button.
One thing that has not changed is man's nature.
As far back into history as you care to go,there have been battles and wars. Can you find a 100 year period in human history where there was no war anywhere?
Some were fought over possesions;(land, precious minerals, etc). Some were fought over theology, philosophy, and women, but the common thread is our human nature.
And human nature is simply nature.
As I said, viruses and bacteria have battles.
I do not paint with a broad brush,as you seem to think, and it is not a judgement, merely an observation.
I enjoy the benefits of modern civilization, and all progress is not bad,but some aspects of it come at a very high price.
I would miss a lot of the modern conveniences, like running water, flush toilets, refrigeration, etc.,but I would survive.
I have been there ,done that.
Eventually, man may mature to the point that world wide peace is possible, but it will not be any time soon, imho.
Insofar as judging harshly:

Medice, cura te ipsum.

There is no perfect utopian world, now or in the future, it's a fantasy, a pipe dream...I think things are exactly as they should be, otherwise we wouldn't have survived...You also seem to think that wars are not necessary, well we all thought that at one time or another throughout history, but guess what, turns out they are necessary from time to time to remain in control of our own destiny, if you don't fight for your freedom, than you won't have any freedom, because there is always someone trying to take it away...You are a typical Monday morning quarterback sitting around criticizing the winning team because they got their uniforms dirty winning the game....they did what they had to do to win, so that you could be here today...Man's nature is the same as all other living things, we seek to control our own destiny...Your concern for the environment is justified but your criticism of the remnants of the struggle to survive is not...

You still do not understand what I meant, and with your preconceived distorted notion of what I mean, further explanation will not help you to understand my meaning.

I was never really good at explaining things,so my meaning is probably not clear to everyone, but it is not what you think.

Therefor I give up and retire from this discussion with you on this matter.

I still highly respect your ability to ferret out the hard to find things on the Net and you have helped me and many others tremendously in the past, and for that I thank you.

I look forward to further discussions with you on a different matter.

Fe60 decays to Co60 in about 2.6 million years half-life

Co60 decays to Ni60 in about 5.3 years

Ni60 is stable.

I'm wondering if whether there is any Ni60 associated with the Fe60, and whether we should expect any.
