I think you will find that it is not necessary to reinvent the wheel. You should be able to buy a transfer switch assembly to do the job provided your generated power voltage and frequency are compatible with the grid you intend to connect to.

I withdraw the discussion thread. I thought about it during the day and after I had found ABB Company. You're absolutely right. It will all work out when alternative energy is cheaper than oil, so there is no reason at all to think about it.

Though I have been wondering if bigger slot cars than I raced as a kid at the hobby shop would be an appropriate expansion of the grid. I'm sort of imagining you get your battery car to the power rail on the interstates and then have the range we have become accustomed to.

ABB Company was very interesting to read about for their DC Transmission from Mexico to the US. Looks like a good stock pick to me.

I think that I actually failed to phrase my question well, since what I was trying to get at was a system in conflict with off grid theory, and trying to come up with a system that took into account political realities. I apoligize and will withdraw the Discussion till I do a better job of writing it up.

Before you invest in a DC Tranmission line anywhere you need to read up on Tesla, Edison, Steinmetz and the reason we have 3 phase electrical distribution nationwide rather than DC which was Edison's darling.

Tesla was far and away smarter than Edison. Hence they did not see eye to eye and they parted company. Tesla went to Westinghouse and advocated a 6 phase transmission which was pared down to 3 phase to minimize costs without the loss of the advangates of multi-phase power transmission.

I've read Atlas Shrugged and know who Tesla is and what he did. I was impressed that ABB had good reasons for using DC for the grid transitional phase from one system to the next. They took the AC from one Grid to DC to AC on the other Grid to make sure there was no phase imbalance during the transfer.

& by the way, thank God 6 phase isn't the standard. I've had to run out 4 ought three phase location power and it nearly broke my back.

Not being a EE but a ME my education has been neglected with regard to Very High Voltage long distance electrical power transmission via DC lines.

politics and science are different to work together it is social responsiblity of the government to give basic infrastructure to there citizens power supply is one of them apart from roads , clean drinking water , sanitation ,basic medical treatments , education to say few

You inquiry seems to ask as to how a lond distance connection can be made to a large grid such as on the european continent.

The answer to THAT question is that there is no practical or economical way to do so.
