Patent Attorney for Power Electronics

12/12/2020 11:06 AM

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a patent attorney with real experience and understanding of power electronics. We are talking about 100kW+ choppers.

I have used generalist in electrical engineering in the past and found that they could not bring out the subtilties of my field. I am looking for somebody who will be able to explain my new circuit properly and highlight the difference with other similar inventions. This is a crowded field and we are patenting the details...

Thanks for your suggestions.

Well I think first you must determine if it is worth the amount of money that will be spent obtaining and defending that patent, which means you must be addressing a multimillion dollar market at minimum, and you must have deep pockets to begin with, otherwise you are wasting time and money...If you are obtaining a patent in anticipation of selling it, they will probably just steal it and bankrupt you in court trying to defend the patent...If you are already selling a product that this patent will apply to and you have substantial sales and this will yield a superior product and keep you one step ahead of the competition, then it might be worth it....

...If indeed it is even patentable....

Thankyou for the advice SolarEagle. I understand the game. One thing I learned during the process of obtaining my four previous patents is that the agent's understanding of the technology involved is very important. This is why I am looking for someone knowledgeable in my "art".

Regards,

The chance of finding a <...Patent Attorney...> here and based in Canada is quite remote. An invitation to look for one will be declined.

Don't you thing that I have look in all the common sources?

The problem is that what is advertised is often different from reality. (big shocker...)

When I talk to them, their claimed skills in power electronics quickly turn into " I have seen that at University but don't remember it very well"

I was hoping that a contributor had a good referral to provide.
