Easy operation of gate valve

02/15/2006 7:02 AM

Thangaraj Raju writes:
I am looking for actuators/gear for operating the gate valves. The existing 14" dia valves for salt water service in our plant are placed in a congested place and operation of it becomes troublesome. Is it possible to introduce some hardware to make the valve operation easy and avoid back ache to operators?

I would be thankful if some body can help me in solving this problem

valve actuators

Do a Google search for "valve actuators". Several brands come to mind, AUMA, Limitorque, Rotork, etc. I'm sure you could find a local sales rep to give advise for your particular situation.

I think I would look into a rotary actuator (pneumatic) with an air pilot controlled pneumatic valve to do the turning from a distance.

Hayward Electric Actuated Valves

02/17/2006 7:30 AM

From experience I would have to recomend Hayward Electric Actuated Valves coupled with Siemens Controllers. I've never had any trouble with them. Although I had more workings with "True Union Ball Valves" rather then gate valves. They are a reputable company and I tend to trust thier products.

Valve actuator

14", huh? How big of a motor do you have room for, and how fast does the valve need to be opened or closed? Valve actuators and controllers others are talking about are two separate things. Kinetrol makes 1/4-turn rotary vane actuators which won't operate a gate valve, and Hayward doesn't make one large enough, either. AUMA, Flowserve(Limitorque), and Rotork (as Ried suggested) make multi-turn actuators large enough for a 14" gate valve.
