Rubber/polymer lined cylinders for rice dehusking machines

11/14/2007 11:04 PM

Anyone out there familiar with rice mill equipment? I have one question regarding the rubber/polymer lined cylinders used on rice dehusking machines. What is the liner material? Is it a compunded rubber material or is is polyurethane. I have a sample worn out cylinder right in front of me. Is there a layman´s test to tell whether the liner is a rubber blend or PU? Any hints will be appreciated?

You can try burning a VERY small sample of it. Polyurethane has a very distintive smell when it burns. If you are not familiar with it, find a sample of known urethane and test it first and compare odor. Of course you want to just get the odor and do not want a lungfull there are toxic compounds present.

Generally, PU is used for the application because of better abrassion resistance. If the existing material colour is other than black, there is a better chance of it being PU.
