I don't think anyone understands entanglement, they just use it because they know what it does. It's like driving a car without knowing how the engine works. Quantum physics is magic, like the magician doing a trick that seems impossible.

Like you, I don't really understand it. The Spatial Modulator sets 4 quarter-wave delays. Apparently, the entanglement accomplishes the same effect as adding the two beams does in conventional holography. Having 4 samples at quarter-wave separation allows calculating the phase shift contributed by the sample from the four images from the two cameras.
