	Simplistically speaking, 5G has been in Europe for a while, now. It is comming, so ''they'' tell us, to the U.S. soon. Why is it in Europe, but not in the U.S., yet? Is there going to be two different varieties of 5G? We got the Internet first. We got Google first. We got Facebook first. Et cetera. Why/how did we not get 5G first, too? Is ours going to be a ''proto-5G''?, or a ''5G+'' ? What caused the delay? We're old enough. We can handle it. 	Well it's pretty much another bait and switch thing, we were led to believe that we would all be getting the mm wave technology thing, but what we got was just a little bit faster bandwidth mostly enabled by fiber optic lines, and that is mostly so everybody could track your every move online while we're watching HD content on the YouTube, and buying toilet paper from Amazon and surveilling the neighbors with our ring doorbells...Essentially they are seeking control, and convincing us to pay for it... https://www.webfx.com/blog/internet/what-are-data-brokers-and-what-is-your-data-worth-infographic/ __________________ All living things seek to control their own destiny....this is the purpose of life

	Really good that some of you can get 5G but pity the poor bushie in OZ where we couldn't get 3g reliably and the improvements promised in the 4G rollout didn't happen to improve the dropouts and black spots. Now 5G will be better we are told, no maybe that should be batter as in something fishy! __________________ Hare today, goon tomorrow!

	Hello Stef, I suspect that the technical problem that no-one here is talking about is that the higher frequency involved (to provide bandwidth/speed) means a reduction in transmitter coverage. 4G doesn't reach as far as 3G could, so these higher speeds will only be available in the built up areas and us in the scrub will merely get what is commercially viable for the providers. I truly hope that I'm wrong in that supposition, but let them prove me wrong by rolling it out to South Burnett, Dubbo, Walget and Wilcannia. (For those in the US and UK, these are areas of regional Australia in decreasing population density.) __________________ Just an Engineer from the land down under.

	All down to return on investment and % share. Advertise availability as 95% - but that is per head of population, so the 5% who don't get coverage are in the 75+% of land area which is not in the cities or big towns. __________________ Madness is all in the mind

	Could it be the regulatory structure in the EU actually encourages innovation over rent seeking? US carriers, as well as many other entrenched industries, spend much of their innovation budgets on lobbying, cost cutting, and finding new ways to extract more in fees (aka. rent seeking) from their US customers without spending to provide more or better service. The promises of 5G have largely been marketing attempts to win over their competitors' customers and only have to be met when customers begin to call the bluff. My impression is regulators in the EU are more active in pursuing consumers' best interests than they are in the US.

	Greedy corporations + apathetic public = crappy but outrageously expensive media services.... 	Woof. Just stating where the incentives are, and why in some areas US industries' technology offerings seem to be stagnant. Sometimes what we call greed is also rational economic behavior. In the US lobbying government for some advantage is often low risk and pays off quickly and significantly compared to actually innovating in the market place. I recently saw an interesting documentary with Kal Pen about economics and rent seeking, which is a real term in economics. It's not healthy for an economy in the long term.

	So very true. Rent seeking is just as damaging to the economy as approval seeking is to society. Another symptom of the decay of American exceptionalism. In the past, what made us exceptional is we would do the right thing regardless of what it cost us. Obviously you don't make a lot of billionaires that way. But then in the Original America creating billionaires was not the goal. Creating an advanced, fair, rational, human society that worked for the good of all not just the wealth, such were the founders intents. I doubt George and Thom would even recognise the circus currently in town, but Ben would, and he'd be saying "I told you so." __________________ Knowing is the end result of learning, not believing.
