Running Headline: Changes Coming to CR4

02/27/2006 4:11 PM

We will roll out the first of many site changes this week on our way to completely rebuilding the site!

Expect to see new categories centered around industrial topics, like electrical, mechanical, civil, etc. We will also officially launch the "Great Engineers and Scientists" project.

And we still want to hear from all of you about Conference Room 4 (CR4). Let us know your opinion of the existing site – the good, the bad, the ugly - and what you'd like to see in the future. For example:

Should anyone be able to post anonymously?
Would you like CR4 to work more like a Forum (Q&A), or like News (Stories)?
Are there features from other forums that you'd like to see here?

Now is the chance to have your say!

Sincerely,
- Chris Leonard & The CR4 Team

How about a graphic interface

02/17/2006 9:59 PM

Overall I really like the site, but the one thing I'd really like to see added is some form of graphic interface for stories and comments. I can hand code URL links, but I'm sure many others can't. Just the same, I don't think I should have to. There are many simple add-ons that would allow it.

I agree, one picture worth one thousand words (I don't have a lot of time to spend reading, I have to make a living) either way I love the site and it's content. One suggestion would to be to put the topics in BOLD TYPEFACE to make it easier to distinguisher between articales.

The ability to submit diagrams or sketches that would clarify a point, as long as they are not extensive and huge, would really be neat. Have you never sat with an engineer during a meal? Within five minutes they have consumed all the napkins with their sketches and math to make their point.

Thoughts

I like the overall concept. However, we need to spice it up a little.

First, it would be nice to have a little more HTML friendly text editing. Adding the magic characters to get a new paragraph is a little old.

Graphics and pictures would help a lot! Maybe adding a download area for pictures for those that are registered. You can purge them after a period of time to prevent excessive file space creep. Also, an upper limit on file size may be required.

I like the forum style. I am partial to the Renlist forum. You can check that out at:

Site Overhaul

02/21/2006 7:25 AM

I read your news letter every morning. I think you've started a "Beautiful Thing." I don't know why any one would want to make an anonomyous post. (I guess they don't have a pair.) But I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed, to help newcomers get comfortable. Mabe we could have a link that filters out the anynomous post for us "Step Up" minded members. Keep up the good work!

web site

I truly enjoy reading the post of all the people. Why anyone needs to keep thier name off a post is beyond me. Maybe the latter effects of the caller ID technology on people. Some like to remain in the back ground while other have nothing to hide even their mistakes or sillyness. Keep up the great work and thank you for being there for us mechenical inclined.
