gas turbine engine wind generation services

11/16/2007 5:25 PM

I was watching a mythbusters episode a while back and they had a gentleman on the show who had supplied a tow behind trailer with two jet engines mounted on it.

I was wondering if anyone knew where to find this kind of service.

The background for this is we have an antenna for an aircraft carrier that must be tested to 10 minutes of jet wash 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Naval Air Station North Island( san diego ) will do it with an F-18 for $100k

any help or alternative test methods will be appreciated.

NAS Fallon (Nevada) tested new generation wheel chocks for us a few years back for N/C. They used an F-16 at 80% thrust. Took a few months to coordinate, but all we had to do was show up w/ the test samples and ear plugs!

Alot of racetracks use jet engines mounted on trucks or trailers to dry the track. If you are near a track, this may be an option..

that jet wash is not only thermal, the antenna must resist a degree of force from the jetwash, depsnds on variables.

You can buy jet engines that are no longer of use in the aircraft from the government, ususally for a lot less than $100k.

Is one url. Build your own setup if you have to do this test a lot.

I would think that some corporate jet pilot, cooling his heels at the municipal airport would probably do it for a bottle of good booze.
