Ggladio: Moving Vehicle

11/22/2007 11:36 AM

A car with a mass of 1000kg moves at 20 m/s. What breaking force is needed to bring it to a stop in 10 s?

No offence intended, but is this homework?

At least you're honest!

Sorry, mate, but you'll have to do it yourself (or ask Teach to explain it, or find (for yourself) one of the many tutorial-type websites which will explain it).

Agreed - it wouldn't help Ggladio to just give the answer. Better if teacher explains it. In any case it's about as basic as you can get with Newtonian physics.

Hint:

Write down the equation relating force, mass and acceleration. Then look at what you are told in the question, and fit the known facts into the equation.

Ha ha ha, that made me laugh. This guy (i suppose) registered with CR4 and went to all this trouble for us to do his homework. That is great and shows he is not lazy so we should at least help him to come to understand the principle.

Good hint from john dg, Hey, Ggladio, if you need any more "hints" just come back and we will discuss this with you so you can get to reason your own way through this. Do show that you have done at least some thinking yourself as well though. Don't let the spoil sports get to you, I think you showed part of what can become a fine character trait. Good on you.

Thanks, I was not looking for a hand out, just a little steer in the proper directions.

I have already got it figured out.

Thanks

Did you use the hint by johndg?

Please feel free to come back and don't mind if some are "having a go at you". I am sure there are loads that would have no problem helping any serious question as long as some thought has gone into it by yourself first.

Hope to see you soon.

p.s. thanks for coming back to let us know the outcome, much appreciated.

p.p.s please subscribe to the daily stories as we have lots of technical, serious, environmental and funny threads all the time. Even if you just read and not contribute you can still learn a lot.
