Water Meter Reading Problem

11/26/2007 10:03 AM

I have several buildings with below grade water meter connected to the central UMCS. The problem is when the irrigation system is running, or it is raining, the meter pit fills up and shorts out the pulse sensor for the UMCS. Short of pulling the meters above grade and installing in the mech room, are there any suggestions on how to make the connections water tight?

If you don't need to open up the connection box frequently, use silicone sealant. If you have to open it regularly, rubber or neoprene gaskets can be used.

How deep does the water get? What have you done up to now to fix the problem?

I agree. It seems that having an area of a plant that frequently floods represents more of a problem than just sealing or relocating a water meter.

I have decided to move the meters above ground into the mech rooms. Several are under two feet of water (big pits) and some are filled with mud. The registers are all corroded. These are relaively new installations for large facilities. I will not let this happen again. Lessons learned.
