When Engineers Make Films

03/03/2006 10:56 AM

Engineer-turned-director Jayaraj has completed a 74 minute feature film in just 2 hours and 14 minutes. Talk about a streamlined approach. The record-breaking attempt has been forwarded to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Said S. Kumar, the director of photography, "We'd planned things, including the lighting, in such minute details, that within a couple of minutes of canning one shot, the lighting for the next scene was switched on and the floor was made ready."

Yup, that sounds like the planning of an engineer.

Guinness?

03/06/2006 9:18 AM

Something is wrong with this deal of making a film in 2 hr, 14 min, not that I care one way or the other, much less that it's being submitted to Guinness as a world record time, but does not the planning stage count as time spent? The director of photography stated: "We'd planned things, including the lighting, in such minute details, that within a couple of minutes of canning one shot, the lighting for the next scene was switched on and the floor was made ready." Isn't planning part of what takes other films so long to make?

I guess it would depend on the Guinness Books standards. If actual filming time is the only thing that counts for the record, then yeah they probably win. I have no idea what the Guinness record for film-making is, or what they consider in the time - nor do I really have any interest looking it up. Just thought iut was an interesting story.

I agree -- it is interesting. Kinda like building a house in 24 hours. I saw a video of the house thing sped up so that it only took about 10 minutes to cover 24 hours. The group who did that said it took two years of planning.
