I don't know what CPM means but HSS stands for Hollow Structural Section: Square, Rectangular or Round. They are also called Tubular Structural Sections and typically vary from 50x50 to 300x300 with the wall thickness from 4 to 12mm (though in India it may be quite different). You should search internet (especially Asian steel manufacturers and vendors) to determine availability and prices. The manufacturers may be not necessarily from India but perhaps from China or Russia.

Actually the general usage for HSS in the west is High Speed Steel. This is for tooling applications where the ultrafine grain size makes a CPM process commercially viable.

Thanks for your contribution. Do see the Cricble link posted earlier.

I'm with you Milo. In Australia it is High Speed Steel and is used for machine tools like drill bits and lathe tools.

It is one of the problems with using abbreviations in an International setting or even in an interdisciplinary forum. Not everybody understands what is meant. What is worse is when they think they know but have the bull by the wrong bit of its anatomy.

Thanks for the come back BlueAussieBoy. Your point about abbreviations is well taken, and one I'll keep in mind. The wrong bit of the anatomy is made all the worse by the fact that they thought they were to milk the C.O.W... Cattle On Warpath!

CPM is a Powder Mertallurgy HSS product.

Sandvik India will get you the powder--but you will then need Hot Isostatic Press/Die+Argon filled Heating. Have you these setups ?
