Large Servo Motors

03/07/2006 12:01 PM

Is there a manufacturer of servo motors with power ratings of 250 to 300kW?

Try these...

DC Servomotors or AC Servomotors You can also add more parameters in the box on the left to narrow down the list even more.

Wrong specs

It would probably be more helpful to you had I used the correct units: kW rather than Watts. The list is now much smaller: DC Servomotors and AC Servomotors. Sorry 'bout that! Good luck.

High HP Servo Motor

03/08/2006 8:42 AM

Ain't no such thing. A servo motor uses position feedback, occassionally coupled with tachometers for velocity feedback to reduce or simplify that function. Servo motors are driven by servo amplifiers, and those aren't made as large as 250kW to 300kW by any manufacturer. Servo motors may be used as motors in which only speed is controlled, either by servo amplifier or variable voltage DC supply, or variable frequency AC supply (and for those of you who want to argue about such things, there are a few exotic means of controlling other relatively small motors). Since 250 kW is not feasible for electronic control of voltage or frequency, other means have to be employed, such as mechanical transmissions. Position control of such high powered motors is done by characterizing the motor and load and turning them on or off at appropriate times. How such high powered motors are turned on or off is another topic for discussion.

I was w-w-w-wrong! ABB, for one, makes large HP VFD's for medium to high voltage motors, which they manufacture also. Considering this, position control just became easier. I need to get out more . . .

Try checking Aida. They use motors up to 500 kw.
