Generator Spacing

12/04/2007 12:04 PM

Dear All,

Can some one give me the clearance/spacing required for generator from the side walls and roof for ample circulation of air?

We have generator of 550 KVA.

A minimum gap of 3 metres from the wall, and 6 metres height. Also remember to give louvers in the room to provide enough air inflow. Total air inflow = Air expelled by the radiator fan + Air consumed by the engine. The room temperature preferably should not exceed 48 deg C in Peak summer. The manufacturer should be able to give you these details. Good luck.

Dear Sir,

Thanks. But in that case the DG room will be having big space requirement, (3m + width of DG Set) x (3m + Length of DG Set) and the height will be 6m + height of DG Set.

Anyway, thanks for suggestions.

Just to clarify...

1) Height is total 6m...floor to ceiling.

2)The radiator side normally flush with the wall ( a suitable opening is made on the wall) so you dont need that 3 metres.

But then generators are lifeline of any industry...and deserve to be treated that way..I have seen so may installations where the room is so cramped and the maintenance guys pay the price....and the construction guy's "saving" goes out of the window...

In short...gennies love airy well laid out room.

Anyway..good luck

The manufacturer of the equipment has those specs in the installation manual.

The local jurisdiction also has authority over the installation.
