12/06/2007 7:22 AM

Hi,

In one of my project i want to use linear stepper motor.

I need procedure to select the linear stepper motor.

The stroke is only 4 to 5 mm is required and it should be controlled with 60 steps.

Proceed as follows: Find suppliers and match what you need to what they can supply.

Globalspec is a good start (I've done your searching for you!), but you'll have to contact the suppliers directly (or look at each of their catalogs). Make sure you know what you want. You've specified a stroke & resolution, but no mention of load (inertial/weight/friction etc.) or speed and acceleration. Write it all down, so you won't be at a loss when talking to a sales engineer. Most suppliers (if they're any good) will have people who can talk you through your requirements & suggest the best they can offer from their range.

Confirm the following to help you further:

1.Load being carried

2.Linear Speed

3.Stepper motor controls

4.dimensional constraints if any!

Hi ashelec,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have got some details like : stroke length max 10mm

force required: 45 N

motor should be in linear motion not rotary motion.

thanking your

Does it have to be a stepper? Perhaps you could look into some of the more novel linear actuation technologies such as piezoelectric or shape memory alloys.

Hi ashelec,

I need to control the motor in terms of steps.

I need linear movement of 4 mm distance to be controlled in 60 steps, I think better to go for stepper motor with controls.

do u have caluclations for motor selection.

plz suggest

Regards,

Manohar
