Ramond Mill / Bentonite

12/06/2007 7:47 AM

I have a Ramond roller mill that we use to grind bentonite. The mill should produce 10-12 tons per hour. We are only producing around 6-7 tons. Looking for an outside opinion why.

What type of Raymond Roller Mill? What is the material hardness? Did it change? What size are you grinding through? Are you getting reject material? Is the mill rumbling? What are you vanes set at? Has the inner cone (Chinese top hat) fallen into the cone? What are your air flows?

1. 54" high side

2. 2-2.5 mohs

3. Slightly

4. 96% @ 200 mesh

5. Running a throw out below the whizzer, very little reject

6. Not rumbling, mill runs smooth

7. What are you refering to as vanes. Out classifier is @ 420-450rpms

8. Cone (Chinese top hat) ????????

9. 22,000 cfm to the cyclone anymore seems to lift uneceptable material.

Check all your pressure drops and static pressures. If you don't have the right pressure drops you may lose up to 40% of your production.

According to Ramond all our pressure are were they should be. We started our experiment of putting the polymer,aqua-pack, bentonite "king mix" in our conveying line after our cyclone last night. Line pressure in normal operation is about 5psi. We immediately started seeing the line clog. After clearing the line the pressure fluctuated between 5 and 15 for a while before it cleared up. The king mix is the obvious reason but not sure why. We also experienced a problem with our viscosity test. The finished product was not testing correctly. We are going to try increasing king mix into product line this morning.

Well after experimenting today with our king mix in the final product line we have found that it does not mix well enough for our viscosity test to pass and we continued to have problems with the line plugging. Moved all equipment back like original for now. I think we are going to try putting it above the mill on the suction to the cyclone. Should get a better mix, and shouldn't be any different on the conveying line than original design. Any thoughts

Still having production problems. Have tried a few different things. If you are familiar with this mill, would you like to discuss any ideas you may have?
