Uninstall Bing?

02/14/2022 7:27 AM

I have tried everything to get rid of Bing on my windows 10 system.

It persists after all efforts to eliminate it.Setting browser preference has no effect.

On line remedies do not work.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Bing is not a browser, it's a search engine, so you might try setting your search engine preference.... Bing is an add-on extension which you should be able to control within the Chrome browser the little puzzle piece up in the right hand corner tray....

I did not have Chrome installed.Bing is the default search engine and I cannot remove it. So,I installed Chrome, looked for the Bing extension,as you directed, but it was not there,so I uninstalled Chrome, but Bing is still my search engine, even if I change my default search engine preferences.

Correction:I cannot change default search engines.

The option is greyed out,but Firefox thinks it is the default, but it is not.

How to Change the Default Search Engine in Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Then click the three-line icon. ...
  3. Next, select Options.
  4. Click Search in the left sidebar. ...
  5. Then scroll down and click the drop-down menu under Default Search Engine.
  6. Finally, choose which search engine to use as the default.

Now bear in mind that you need to have the google search engine installed first, or whatever search engine you want to use as default....

"Google is the default search engine in Firefox, which means you can search the web directly from the address bar. Learn more about search engine preferences and changing defaults."

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/faq/

If your version of Firefox has been altered you may need to delete it and re-install from a trusted website....

Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

When MS operating systems are entirely subscription based, I will be going Linux. I will hang onto Win7 and Win10 as long as I can.

I still have an XP machine that I keep running "off-line" because I have a high-resolution Nikon slide/film scanner that Nikon was unwilling to write new drivers for the latest O.S.'s. Bastards.

Wow, that is crazy high resolution. I wonder if the optics support it.

I believe the unit I have is 2,800 dpi but once I'm done scanning what's in my film/slides, I won't need one anymore. Plus I do have the batch slide loader which is nice and the Nikon software does the dust and scratch removal, plus color correction for the Ektachrome and other slide types that tend to 'fade' over time.

Amen Brother! That's how I "uninstall" Bing!

I did that to IE a long long time ago. 20+ years on Linux.

I own my hardware.

Your antimalware may be the one putting the settings back. Check the settings in there and see if it has browser changes protection. If it does, then turn it off, make your changes, then turn it back on again or re-set the browser protection. Depends on the antimalware app you have.

I'm using the Firefox browser with DuckDuckGo as the default search engine--because I don't want to give Google free advertising, plus it is more private. Bing is also installed, but not the default.

You are dealing with what I call Bill Gates crap. You don't need to uninstall it, just use another search engine. DuckDuckGo is said to be secure.

Problem Solved.

I did a refresh of Firefox, basically it is a reinstall, but keeps past preferences and settings.Bing is now gone and good riddance.

DuckDuckGo is now back.

Thanks to everyone for all the valuable advice and suggestions!

I'm not sure if this relates, but I recently got a new (cheapo) laptop with Win 10 pre-installed. Little did I know that "Windows 10 s" meant it could only run microsoft software. Easy enough to circumvent that, but what a beeping cheek ! I think Solar has already given the steps to take for setting default browser, though m/s seem to be doing a lot of sneaky stuff. My guess is the endgame being for users to pay by subscription for each element of Windows they use. 10 years younger and I'd learn something like Linux and say to heck with m/s. For what it's worth, I'm using google via Firefox on the mentioned cheap laptop.

Some of the people I talk to like Chromebooks. They don't have much space for saving files, because they utilize The Cloud. Around here many of the schools are giving out Chromebooks. Providing the schools with good prices may, in the long run, produce customers. But the Chromebooks seem to do a good job. I'm starting to use The Cloud, OneDrive, with this Win 10 desktop or a very old Linux laptop when away from home.

Strange chance, but a young relative visited today with her new gadget - a Chromebook. I know little about them, but she seemed very pleased. I don't know what model etc (yet) because she will not let an old fogey near it. Youth of today grr. (in a laughing kind of way).

It may not be enviromental friendly, but I'm sticking with hard-copy storage of info for now. Banks and Utilities constantly want people to go paperless, but I adhere to the adage about things 'not being worth pixels they are displayed in'.

The relative payed about £620 for her whatever. I'll update if I learn anything more about how well it works.
