Antimatter stars?

02/13/2022 11:39 AM

A study suggests that there could be antimatter stars in our galaxy. 14 stars have been identified as sources of gamma rays of the right energy for matter-antimatter annihilation and apparently not associated with extreme objects like black holes or pulsars (neutron stars). What do you think?

If half of the stars in our observable universe were made of anti-matter,how could we tell the difference from regular matter stars? They would emit the same type energy, right? We may be on a small lump of normal matter, and led to believe that most of the universe is like ours.

The distribution of anti matter/matter would not necessarily be homogeneous.

I knew of him,but never met him personally.

He lived in Frostbite Springs,I lived in Snow Snake city.

I transferred to Puck University in Canada.Our motto:"If you don't like hockey,Puck U"

i don't believe they would emit the same type of energy. it would be the obverse.

the anti-matter start would be dark and therefore only observable when a matter star passes behind it and we see less emission, similar to the way we observe planets (or did before some of the latest telescopes).

Antimatter stars should look just like matter stars except for gamma rays from the surface where normal matter objects fall in.

"But proving that any celestial object is an antistar would be extremely difficult, because besides the gamma rays that could arise from matter-antimatter annihilation, the light given off by antistars is expected to look just like the light from normal stars."

I've often wondered if primordial matter-antimatter interactions during or shortly after inflation are the initial basis for the bunching of galaxies and stars into galaxies.

I tend to think that these are just another iteration of a collapsing star, a really big one, that is collapsing from gravity while being blown apart by matter antihalation....it would be interesting to know the distance of these stars and if they were a phenomena of the early universe...I suspect they will eventually collapse in either a superduper nova or perhaps form some other exotic body, maybe both....Maybe it's a tiny black hole completely inundated by dozens of stars...

For decades they have been saying there aren't any, and have been trying to explain why ever since. So I seriously doubt they are antimatter.

You are very likely correct, it's a Hail Mary. But big discoveries have come from checking what everyone knew was true...

Yep… it comes down to you (as in they) don’t know, what they don’t know.

Same with dark matter. All they really can say about "dark matter" is that there is a warp in spacetime which seems to be caused by matter.

It could be a dimple in space time that was there from the birth of spacetime.

They presume spacetime is uniform without matter.

They presume it is matter causing the non-uniformity.

It might also be an effect from another dimension that has not totally detached from ours, like a stage of a single-cell organism dividing, but over trillions of years.

Perhaps universes multiply in a like manner.

The entire universe may be a gigantic living organism.

Yep,.., they speculated and try to prove it with formulas…. If it balances out, so to speak… they’re on to something…
