The case for trees to turn back global warming

09/15/2022 12:52 PM

I know the case for planting more trees to reverse global warming has been made in more places than here and by people better qualified than myself.

But today I got to record the actual difference that trees make to micro climates.

The first pic below is looking north east over an urban area of houses and streets with a few trees here and there.

The second pic is using the exact same camera settings from the exact same spot looking north over a virgin wooded hill. Both pics taken seconds apart in misty, slightly rainy conditions.

Happy to share...it's a complicated subject that requires a deep dive into all aspects of planetary interaction with solar energy...much of which we have covered here over the years...and the information keeps changing, as do the climate models...

Plants release more carbon dioxide into atmosphere than expected

..."A new study reports that increased vegetation growth during the recent decades, known as the “Greening Earth”, has a strong cooling effect on the land due to increased efficiency of heat and water vapor transfer to the atmosphere."...Nov 23, 2020

..."The greening of the lands during the first fifteen years in the 21st century represented an additional heat dissipation (2.97×1021 J) from the surface equivalent to five times the total energy produced and used by humans in 2015 (5.71×1020 J). This greening-induced cooling effect was twenty-five times stronger than the warming effect caused by tropical deforestation."....

. . . and I thought the science was settled.

But I like trees for many reasons, not just climate remediation.
