IF that first video, Real or Fake, is true and not fake .....

Then why can't full size choppers do that?

The old square/cube effect. Strength goes up as the square of scale, weight as the cube of scale.

Full size piloted helicopters don't do that because 1) a pilot wouldn't survive the G forces, and 2) the material strength requirements to keep it from breaking up would make the aircraft too heavy to fly. That stuff won't be a problem when we finally invent Star Trek style inertial dampeners.

PS - I have my doubts about that video being authentic. I don't believe the pilot on the ground has the reflexes to keep up with it.

Yes, the smaller craft can have considerably higher G-level performance, but I'm with you, I am skeptical about the first video, but that doesn't make me a denier.

If they were to record the video from further away so we can actually see the aircraft, I might be more inclined to believe it. Perhaps they could put a logging IMS (inertial measurement system) and then publish the data so it can be properly peer-reviewed.

There are plenty of official R/C helicopter competition videos on youtube and other venues that can be compared with this "helicopter" video. Peruse a few, which usually include broader views of the venue, and I think anyone would begin to question this vid.

I'm always amazed at the number of fake vids that people try to pass off as real, like the comet hitting the sea vid included in this thread.

The epic battle of man against nature...

Shark surfing....of course at some point you have to let go, and find yourself sitting in the middle of the ocean on a Styrofoam plank, surrounded by hungry sharks, so there's that....

This is the recovered chunk of meteor that landed in the lake...

friend of mine I grew up with… became a chopper pilot for the army. He was telling me, his army buddy who was also a chopper pilot, bought a RC helicopter… he added, that since his friend was also chopper pilot already,… he didn’t need no training arm that you can get with it. He then said, it was the funnest 3 seconds ever…. Lol.

Re: Wow, That's Pretty Wild

I've witnessed this style/type of RC helicopter piloting @ a RC Convention type gig in LasVegas circa August 2002.

The flying demos took place @ UNLV.

I attempted to video the pilots (a young 17-19 year old competition pilot) stick inputs but was politely told No.

The flights I witnessed this young man perform had me quite amazed to say the least. His routines we're magnitudes beyond what is demonstrated here & with durations of 2-3 min or more.Quite a feat for electric powered RC aircraft in 2002.

In 2002 'Thunder Power' was the Li battery brand to beat & we're demonstrated as being indestructable by hammering a nail through an individual cell while a meter read V.

As for reflexes, it's more a matter of training. At this performance level, if you wait to observe an action of the a/c to make an input your done. About 3sec. would be correct.

Of course we don't really know if this YT presenter is actually operating this a/c.

Skies

Like a lot of high performance aircraft, performance and agility is based on the fine line of the craft being on the borderline of being out of control.

Sounds like the price of gas… goes up over $3.00/gallon to $5.13/gallon… it drops $0.07/gallon. And then a certain someone brags for a week how how ‘he’ single-handedly was able to bring gas down for that common man. You know, ever little bit helps…

And then the following week, gas prices increases to $5.39/gallon and silence from the same certain someone.

Look around at what's happened in the last two years, you can't blame that on someone else...it's hard to believe that anyone could do so much damage in such a short time...but there it is...This is why you don't vote for the guy you like the most, you vote for the guy that serves your needs the best....

Nice response,… I realize that response is address to the people that threw a temper tantrum for the full 4 years, that are now in the shadows because they got what they wanted and only crawl out of their bunkers and quip to the people that disagree with them in a Condescension way.

This some it up… those same people and their cohorts that wanted bad Cheetos man out because he’s going to destroy America, are themselves that are destroying America.

The hardest part of flying any rc craft is remembering that when the plane is coming toward you,the controls are reversed when it is going away.I never got the hang of it,and the ones that can do amaze me.You gotta be mentally in the plane,or the copter.

My son, (now 30 yrs old) who was raised on remote control ground and aerial vehicles, is one of those RC savants.

I think it is a lot deeper than imagining you are mentally in the vehicle because there is no way that you can observe the vehicle, mentally construct the remote environment and then provide inputs to the controls in the time required. I've tried that and failed miserably. I believe it is simply 'muscle memory' from thousands of hours of observing, making inputs and then observing the desired or undesired reaction of the remote vehicle.

I've watched him fly a high performance RC aircraft, upright and inverted, towards and away, and left-to-right and right-to-left and both his hands are blazing away at the controls. He still flies to "relax" when he takes a break from building race cars.

I can't even get a Fisher-Price Smurf car to do what I want without crashing into things.

As a teen I was really good at flying control line model aircraft in combat with others in the same circle.

Tried to move to R/C aircraft in 3D. Failed, except for finding the ground regularly.

But I was good at slot car racing too.

It seems to me that the possibility of hitting a jagged outcropping of rock on the way down would negate any assurance of survival, I guess the strategy would be to hold the goat in front to cushion the impact of any abrupt obstacle that might happen to appear....still seems quite risky...

Interesting: I just followed a link from one of your other YouTubes to this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpuCtzdvix4

about amorphous metal bouncy surfaces.

Maybe we should start a CR4 challenge to design the longest running ball bearing on a bouncy surface.

The commentator said that the balls bouncing side to side isn’t spherical enough… I think the possibility is that it’s also deforming as it hits.

Pucker factor, no joke.

I think I counted eight missiles. I wonder where this was? It didn't look like Afghanistan from what I could tell.

Looks like the flares did an admirable job of diverting the missiles. And the fact that this guy was 'laughing' about cheating death show that the kind of well-trained calm competency, executing evasive maneuvers and launching the flares. A big salute to this pilot with a big set of cajones.
