Loss of editing icons when replying to threads.

01/22/2023 6:24 AM

When replying to threads:-

I've lost the editing icons and ability to paste screen shots again, and, none of the tricks that worked before seem to work now.

Everything seems OK in this original post:

I think they have installed some copyright scan program that scans for copyright protection use authorization on any pics posted...this seems to interfere with adding a pic when a previous pic has not concluded it's search...and certain triggers exist that open this search and conclude it...seems to get tangled sometimes....but usually sorts itself out with a post edit cycle or two...

I've had problems occasionally using Chrome. The icons are either missing or replaced by little squares. When little squares, I recall hovering over them with the cursor indicates what they are supposed to be. It hasn't happened for quite a while now.

When I open it up with Edge, it seems to be OK.

Thanks: I don't even get any little squares. I am using chrome: if it happens again I'll try Edge.

Perhaps over a decade ago, I had almost the same problem with Safari. Switching to Firefox solved the problem. Since then, they fixed the problem with Safari, so I'm using it again.

Which brings up a problem I've had the last few months.
Whenever I open a post or go to a different post, I can never see the first few lines of the intended post; I have to scroll, moving the page down a few lines to see the beginning of the post.

All the above refers specifically to the CR4 forum.

Any comments or suggestions? I have to admit that I haven't tried other browsers yet...

Do you mean like this: I just went to the new comments, then, clicked on the link to your post:-

I'm using chrome and it's been doing this for as long as I can remember. I've kind of grown to accept it, but, you're right it should be corrected.

Exactly!

FWIW, I just tried Firefox, and it has the same problem.

This seems to me to be a problem with screen resolution, what is your screen resolution set at? Is this a phone or laptop or desktop?

Hmm... Could be. I'll check it out. I do nearly everything on my M1 16" MacBook Pro, with a resolution of 3456 × 2234, and I do have the display set to the second of three possible enlargements.

This window (the browser window) is ≈11.1" wide at my current screen resolution, and it becomes ≈8.5" wide at default resolution, corresponding to roughly 1.3x enlargement, Which would give an effective resolution of roughly 2650 x 1710 pixels. Unfortunately, the current Mac OS does not provide resolution values for enlarged or reduced displays.

There is no way I would be able to read this text on my iPhone without using a head band loupe.

I just tried looking at CR4 at default resolution, and the problem is still there.

I just tried it using Firefox at both resolutions; same results.

I do have an iMac (effectively my wife's computer) available, so I'll have to try viewing CR4 on it.

I'm using chrome on a laptop with the recommended settings:-

I've tried 1600 x 900 (the same aspect ratio), and, 1680 x 1050 which just cuts two margins off the sides of the screen. Neither affected the problem.

I did try chrome on my android phone earlier on, and that works fine.

Try hitting control/minus on the open page, you might have page magnification on too high to see the top , if so then it's just a minor inconvenience you'll have to live with to maintain the text size you're comfortable with....

On a Mac, it's either Command/minus or Option/Command/Minus, but neither solves the problem.

I gather you do not have this problem. Which computer, OS, and browser are you using?

Desktop, Acer, windows 10, chrome...

We didn't mention display orientation...I'm on landscape

Do you have the text size set greater than 100%?

This is interesting... Although my System indicates a native resolution of 3456 × 2234, when I do a partial screen capture with the default screen enlargement, the crosshairs indicate a maximum of exactly half of those values, 1728x1117. If I do it at the "More Space" setting, they indicate 2056x1328, and at my chosen enlargement, they show 1312x846

Since this is a laptop, I can't imagine a need for portrait mode for the built-in display, and am not aware of a setting to allow that. I do have an iPad connected as a second display, and as far as I can tell, it too can only use landscape mode. A number of apps allow setting text size, but AFAIK, Safari does not. The Mac does not, to my knowledge ,have a separate setting for text size, but only for screen resolution. I just now noticed that this editing window is lacking the toolbar, and pressing Return does not add a space/line between paragraphs, as it has done for years, and it removes all Returns, leaving only a single paragraph.

Reply to #14 control/minus makes no difference

Reply to #16 All my other setting are identical to yours.

And I've lost the editing icons on this thread now {:>(

I lost those icons (which I called the "Tool bar") while replying to SE, but they are here now.

And the Return inserts an extra line as before.

Every time my Chrome browser softwares or my OS are upgraded, they seemed to change the settings in my pc too..especially when the upgrades requires the system to be rebooted... Which would be a good reason to check and keep a record of the configuration settings..just an observation.
