Weird luminous cloud effect using low light camera

02/21/2023 11:36 AM

A friend of mine has just bought a pixel phone with the low light camera. He took this picture of a fox (near the bottom) which woke him in the middle of the night. He said it was nearly pitch black (the street lights are pathetic now).

So, were ghost busters working in the house opposite?

Thanks Solar, just the right colours

I told my friend I was going to use Paint Shop Pro to enhance the image: I was so excited about how well the fox (a stock picture) came out that "I didn't notice" the other "improvement".

On a more serious note, I believe you have a lens flare. I've lost the ability to hyperlink, again. So here is the Wikipedia explanation.

All of the examples on Wikipedia have much more "predictable" form than the one my friend took.

Google Pixel lens flare: What it is, and how to avoid it By Andrew Martonik last updated August 12, 2020 "... Google has acknowledged that many Pixel owners are unhappy with the lens flare, and is working to have the camera software identify and synthetically remove egregious lens flare when you shoot in HDR+ (as the Pixel is set to by default). The software update should be arriving in the coming weeks." https://www.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-lens-flare-what-it-and-how-avoid-it

From your link:-

" the Pixel's camera most often exhibits a faint white/pink/purple ring near the edges of the frame. Some cameras show it as more of a tight circle in the frame or a series of circles cascading across the image. The Pixel's lens flare is most pronounced in situations when most cameras produces lens flare, such as looking directly at the sun or in scenes where an image is dominated by a single strong source of light from the side."

I don't think any of that applies.

A number of sources suggest using a UV blocking filter. If you can duplicate the situation, it might be interesting to try it.

This shows a very rare event.Someone turned on a light on the top floor. This photo shows the action of a dark sucker(a notohp) in action. It is too quick for the human eye and most cameras,so this is very rare. Dark suckers suck all of the dark out of an area so that light can penetrate. When the dark is gone, the light will immediately replace it due to the mass of the light being greater than the mass of dark. The light is held back by the larger magnetic repulsion of the notohp, and the dark sucker has an opposite magnetic polarity to attract the dark out of an area. Dark suckers can be observed on the surface of the sun,and are called sunspots. When the dark suckers attain a certain mass, they collapse into the ultimate dark suckers:black holes. "That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it"

I get that from time to time. Never have been able to figure out why but some number of days later, they just re-appear again like some apparition.

I have a workaround...post some text, then after, press edit, go back and edit icons reappear....the edit icons only appear on an existing post....the loss of icons seem to be related to a previous post containing a graphic image...carry on

I tried that before: that's why post 11 has an edit instead of just abandoning it.

But they're back now

Zoom of anomaly

I think there are three or four individual artifacts each of which starts at a window.

This may be a artifact of a Flux Transfer Event, which is when the sun connects, via magnetic "rope" to the Earth. These events occur every 8 minutes. It is seen in all planets to some degree, even Mercury. (I think this is the sun checking up on it's children.)

No one know exactly how these ropes form,or what,if any, information is transferred.

Open / ajar windows let out damp warm air. Cold outdoor temperatures cause forming of steam like clouds, as seen above a boiling kettle / pan of water. The new LED street lights are directional, giving light down to the ground only instead of all around as the old style did. At the edges of the LED beam, there is diffraction of the virtually white light. What we see in this picture is the diffracted colour portion reflected in the damp air cloud.

It is faster than the human eye,but sometimes it leaves a vapor trail. It could have been a "One eyed one horned flying purple people eater.) (Sheb Wooley song)Google it if you care to.
