Magnetized Mobius Strip

05/04/2023 12:31 PM

What shape would the magnetic field have if a flat metallic ,seamless Mobius strip were surrounded by a coil of magnetized wire and a current is passed through the wire? First With DC,then with AC?

No gap in the mobius strip,no variance in the resistance of the strip, then with a linear or non linear resistance in a portion of the strip, then the resistance distributed across the entire strip in a linear or non linear manner.

What a ride that would make at a 6 flags park!Add a couple more twists for the really strong stomached die-hards by adding an even number of twists to end up on the same side you started on.Half twists and full revolutions are common, but I have not seen a Mobius Strip Monster Ride.Make the flip upside down for the A++ personality thrill seekers.

There may be some, but I don't get around much anymore.

I seem to remember the old 8 track tapes used a mobius twist on the tape to extend the play time on the cassette.I think the even older 4 tracks did the same.

Yeah, that was back in the '60's.Memories from that phase of my life are kinda foggy and psychedelic with lots of skips in the playback for some reason.

Very interesting,SE,but not exactly what I wanted to know.

Thanks anyway.

I'm not sure what you're asking without a sketch.

What you're describing sounds like the flux in a Stellarator. A Tokamak has a toroidal-shaped field, but a stellarator puts a twist in it.

GA from me!.

I had never heard of a Stellarator before,so it has added a new wrinkle to this old brain.

Thanks.

Stellarator, sounds like a person assigned to give a score to Hubble or James Webb images.

I wonder what would happen if you split a small section of a single twist mobius strip, then twisted one half of the split strip twice (3 twists total) to get another strip within the strip.I bet there would be some really confused electrons, depending on the length of the split, with half of the electrons going one way and half going the other way,or whatever the ratio of the split to the main strip.

I might play around with some metal strapping just for fun.

An antenna maybe?

If you instead make the longitudinal cut 1/3 of the way across, it does something else unexpected--but I forget what since it has been too long, and no time to try it now. Seems like maybe a small and a large loop intertwined.

  • Stick two paper Möbius strips with the same twist direction at right angles to each other.
  • Cut down the middle of each strip with a pair of scissors.

One gets a pair of interlinked hearts!

It's a great one to do with a loved one around 14th February.

If the metallic strip is conductive, it should behave just as any other conductor. Just like a twisted bar or rod.

But the fields of the current coils are different. A closed coil(coil formed in circle) has an enclosed M field. A broken or straight coil(an open coil) has an external M field. Open dipoles fountain out and in from surrounding space. Enclosed dipoles remain in the dipole state and have uniform density. And directional uniform momentum.

After some searching,I found some info on Mobius strip antennas.

Now I am going to explore making an antenna from a fractal folded mobius strip.

Anyone know about this,or have tried it?

I would sincerely appreciate any feedback on this matter.

Thanks in advance for all help.

If you build this and turn it on, I am sure the strip will get hot. The eddy currents will be massive. Stellarators and Tokomaks don't have a conductor in the center. This will be like an induction furnace if you turn up the current.

One dimensional carbon has some very unique qualities, and I wonder if anyone has tried a mobius strip constructed as a Mobius tube?

Here is a normal one dimensional tube (1D),a2D and a3D.

And here is a link to a ZERO DIMENSIONAL tube???HUH?

As my uncle said?"I don't understand all I know about that".
