Like self-driving cars, I'm skeptical that AI is going to live up to its hype.

Largely for the same reasons, writing good software to emulate human capabilities is incredibly hard.

Ray tracing is the ultimate in fabricated reality, have you ever tried writing the code for it...? ...being able to code this in real time is mind blowing....this alone is worth the price of admission...

The evolution of the unreal engine...

IMHO: The majority of people do not realize how many lines of code it takes to navigate a mouse on screen,or to produce moving images.

Computers are made by geniuses to be operated by idiots.

I have written some very basic software over the years, but not in the recent decade, and I could never compete in today's world of technology.Better machines can help build better machines, and they in turn can enable building even better machines.Same with computers, which of course is a machine.

The growth is exponential and will soon exceed the originators of the programs.Eventually no people will be needed except to consume, and the machines will have to be taxed on what they produce,so that the people can be provided an income.

Some countries are experimenting with a free basic income because they see the handwriting on the wall.

People will always take the easy way,and living in a structured reality will be addictive, especially when technology reaches the level of the reality simulators of the HoloDeck on Star Trek.

Everyone living in their own reality.

Of course there will always be bad actors that will interfere with this Shangrila guided by multiple artificial lamaseries.

What if you asked an AI to Hypothetically develop a code that would shut down all AI computers,or some other carefully structured command to deceive the AI to do damage to other parts of the system, infrastructure, food supply, etc?

We have let the genie out of the bottle and it will not be put back in without some global catastrophic event that erases nearly everything.

I am a pessimist you think?

No just a realist, having seen what mankind has done in the past.

As Mark Twin said,"The more I know about people, the better I like dogs,"

Like BSR, I'm skeptical.

For years, I've been hoping that autonomous vehicles would become a reality before I get too old to drive safely. When an autonomous vehicle safely drives up our unmarked, steep, narrow, side-sloped street with a ditch on the low side of that slope, and pulls up the correct driveway to my house, turns around to face out, ands calls me to tell me its ready, Then I'll let it take me to get my groceries...

You can bet the milkman's horse knew the route without any cues.

That's a pretty small horse, and a fairly heavy wagon. I'm not at all sure it could make it up our street, with or without direction. ... and I certainly wouldn't want to be the first to ride that wagon down our hill, it it did make it up...

Very enlightening. I had no idea. I see why Elan Musk is scared.
