Gas Cylinders Inspection

08/20/2023 2:47 AM

Good day everyone,

As per the ISO-6406, the gas cylinders are subject to pressure test or ultrasonic test. the subject standard did say if the pressure test can be superseded in case the UT survey was carried out. so, can be the cylinders only UT scanned and be endorsed as the results of UT was satisfactory? anyone had experience with gas cylinders to get answer. we have difficulty in the pressure testing due the facility availability.

Best Regards,

I don't see a problem with ultrasonic testing vs pressure testing, generally speaking, there might be exceptions with certain types of gases and/or pressure levels though...

Given my druthers, I would rather have the hydrostatic test, because I think it would be more likely to find any problems. Ultrasonic would, I suspect, depend on the skill and thoroughness of the operator.

We work with gas cylinders frequently. They should be hydrostatically tested periodically in accordance with the standard that governs their use.
