DC Charger Controller for CCS1

09/12/2023 8:33 AM

Good morning,

I am looking for a charge controller for CCS1 (DC only) charger I am building. Up to now I found two very expensive ones from German companies that require a lot of programming to adapt to my hardware. They come with screen controller, WIFI, etc... I am looking for something simpler that would be less costly to implement (in time and money). A hobby or student project would be OK.

The charge controllers that go in the car with the BMS are available but the complementary one going into the charger are rare.

Note: Controllers for AC chargers are very easy to implement and you can find them everywhere but controllers for DC chargers are the rare ones.

Thanks.

Maybe a hint on voltage, current, and expected control range and control signal range might stimulate some interest in coming up with a component level solution. Just because it has a fancy TLA doesn’t mean it can’t be solved with non TLA components.

Thanks for the reply.

The controller is independant from the power section. It only give it the setpoint and run command. The same controller can serve a 50kW DC charger or a 1MW one...

But if you want numbers for my design, here they are:

300kW ultrafast DC charging capacity.

400VDC and 800VDC compatible.

So, still a lot of holes in your information. You got question 1, still need 3 & 4. Plus the battery chemistry, to design the supply current curve and limits. It is likely an ac designed controller will work, with a simple interface adapter. It is not as complicated as you might imagine.

It would be nice to define your acronyms.
