Brake Light Wiring Diagram

02/14/2024 1:35 PM

I have a 2007 Honda Accord, with over 300000 miles, and still running great. Brake lights began to stay on after everything was switched off, and I replaced the brake light switch. Everything worked fine. Next day, it would not come out of park, and the brake lights would not come on. I rechecked the brake light switch and it was good.

Park lock solenoid would not energize to release the park. It should energize when key is on and brake pedal is pushed.

I can manually bypass the solenoid, by inserting a key into the emergency release slot on the shifter console, but I do not want to drive it like this.

All fuses and relays check good.

I have tried to find a complete schematic of the circuitry controlling the brake lights and park solenoid but cannot find one on line, only partial ones.
I think the problem may be under the bottom side of the fuse/relay box but I cannot find a complete schematic.

Any help finding a complete schematic on the entire car would be very helpful and much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

If the newly installed switch is "open" when you try to move shifter, then the circuit is not made and car safety features work as intended.

Brake lights not "on" implies the switch is still open. This means the plunger has not travelled far enough.

This could happen if the newly installed switch is not properly adjusted relative to pedal position. (Advanced too far though threaded fitting)

The above is based on brake light switches used by Nisssan, Toyota and some other manufacturers that we supplied the brake light switches to.

If you've installed a new and verified good switch, it's probably something this simple.

Hi, ebay has about 65 Workshop Manuals for a 2007 Honda Accord, they include all the wiring diagrams. Might be a good investment if you intend to keep the car.

The just don't build them like they used to. The car has been very dependable from the start. I bought it new with zero miles. It has been well maintained, oil changes every 3000 miles, etc. I do my own maintenance, including timing belt, water pump, idlers, etc.

Does not use oil between changes.

Since new, I have replaced the idle air solenoid belts, tires wipers, etc. Normal wear items. That's it.

It is like an old friend and as long as it runs well I will not abandon it to the scrap heap from which they may make 4 or five new, lesser cars.

A lot of space in the landfills could be saved if they built things to last.

Problem resolved:

A corroded pin under the fuse block. A good spray of WD40 and let it soak overnight, and BINGO! Problem solved.

Thanks to all for the valuable feedback!

Thanks for letting us know what caused the problem and the cure !! A lot of people post problems and leave people hanging in the air if the problem was solved or not, etc.
My "Ex" has a 1996 Honda Accord Coupe with over 250k and its still running !!

It is just getting broken in at that mileage .If properly maintained, it could go another 250K.

This looks like a wiring or signal issue, not the brake switch. On your Honda Accord 2007, the brake signal also controls the park lock solenoid, so a fault in wiring, relay, or fuse box can cause both problems.

I had a similar issue myself, and it was hard to fix without proper diagrams. I ended up buying a service and repair manual, and it helped a lot, better you also get one to solve this properly

It is too rare that someone actually defines the "Fix" that worked. Kudos to you HiTek! I too like a well built machine. I recently purchased an 18 year old Mercedes with 120,000 miles. The best thing about old Mercedes with high mileage is they're practically free! This goes for high mileage Hondas as well. They are both very well engineered brands. Many of these marques are 1,000,000+ miles capable

The owners manual say oil change at 7500 miles. I am old school,3000 miles is the maximum for me.

Sure, lubricants have improved, clearances are closer, but old habits die hard and some are good to hang on to.
