19" rackmount enclosures/cabinets

12/11/2007 4:48 PM

Hi Guys,

I've got a basic question regarding 19" rackmount's, (ie. server cabinets, enclosures).

When a part is defined by 19" rackmount, I was assuming it was the width between the mounting rails.

After doing some digging on Globalspec, products i have come across companies that mention rackmount as the 'panel opening width'? Also I've seen rack rails that are 19.375" and 19.75" apart. Could someone help me clarify the standardized 19" rackmount definition?

TIA

Hi,

I've sent you an extract from BS5954 as a message as it's too large to post here.

Hope it's of some help.

The 19" Rack refers to the Width of the devices designed to be installed in the rack/cabinet, the additional space refered to by some manufacturers is the clearance available between the rails to mount 19" equipment.

In some cases this is to cater for metric equipment but the 19" rack terminology is now a more generic term.

in this term all 19'' rack are replace with each other as physical dia-mention and considering appropriate U size of that rack.

that can mount with front screw with exact matching in any standard cabinet from front side but differ in length and mounting guide arrangement and that is totally depend upon manufacturer.

and there and user convenience
