Electric field measurement

12/11/2007 5:24 PM

Seeking Electric field sensor, preferably fiber optic. Looking at measuring discharge ~ 90 nsec pulse with field strengths up 50-60kV/m.

Hey Clarkie,

this is a tricky area, but there are more alternatives out there now than ever before.

How large is the volume you need to measure - a small object, a rack, room, stadium, or outdoors...?

ciao

Looking at testing some small hand held equipment that would fit inside a TEM cell about 1 cubic metre in volume.

Hi Clarkie,

Our Company, Skyview Systems, supplies EFM (Electric Field Mill) sensors.

If you email me (ian@skyview.co.uk) with your contact details I will be happy to provide you with a quotation (with data sheets) to suit your requirements.

Kind Regards

Ian.

Ian,

you ain't gonna see no 90nsec pulse with an electric field mill...

ciao

Thanks RFG.

Quite correct, the EFM equipment we supply is primarily for electrical storm (lightning) prediction & detection purposes and would typically have a response time in the order of 0.1sec.

Although it wouldn't resolve to nsec timing , the discharge would of course register as a change in the EF. The poster didn't state that timing to nsec resolution was required therefore I await further information.

It would be useful to know for what purpose Clarkie intends to use the equipment so that better advise can be provided...

Hi again Ian,

uh...you wrote

"The poster didn't state that timing to nsec resolution was required therefore I await further information."

Clarkie wrote

Doesn't seem very ambiguous to me.

Using a field mill to measure a 90nsec pulse is like using a wind vane to measure the speed of a bullet

But in any case, yeah, Clarkie needs to frame the measurement task a little more precisely

Regards

We are looking at applying the MIL-STD-461E EMP test. We have the pulser and most of the other equipment. Ideally we would like to get say 1 nsec resolution so we can confirm the prifole of the the pulse. At the worse case, a peak field detector would possibly do although I not aware of any. Calibration is another issue we would have to address.

Thought so..

;-)

OK you need to get with this guy: Mr. Bertrand Daout at Montena EMC SA in Rossens Switzerland.

http://www.montena.com/emc/

They are building a sensor specifically for this test (among other applications..).

Send me an email and I will email you the details.

cheers

Dear Friend,

I do know the best tools available for the testing and measurement and for the maintainance of the motor for lifelong period. I have my firm for the transformer repair and winding in maharashtra.

Rishabh Instruments, a nasik based company, i suppose, is the worlds leading manufacturer of the Analog panel meters and it is also engaged in manufacturing of the digital instruments for easing the daily tasks of people like us.

Now i have herd that they are representing Gossen Metrawatt of Germany and METREL of Slovenia for the marketing and servicing of the same in India.

I have found the websites of all the three companies and i am glad to tell you they are:

www.rishabh.co.in

www.gossenmetrawatt.com

www.metrel.si

I have bought the multimeter from this company and i was amazed with the performance of the same. Rishabh provides a very wonderful after sales service for all its instruments and now i came to know why they claim "German Quality products at Indian prices". Isnt that wonderful. I have ccordinated with a lady there at marketing@rishabh-instruments.com and spoke to her on 02532202160 when i had purchased the meter.

Have a nice time...
